Gardening Tips: Olives grow very slowly, so don't require much pruning. However, pinching out young plants can help to encourage them to develop a branching shape. Once they are 1.5M (5ft high), select three or four of the strongest and best-placed shoots to retain, and pinch out the others.<\/p>\n

Olea europaea is an evergreen tree with a rounded crown. Very small white flowers bloom in panicles in summer on stems from the leaf axils. Flowers are fragrant. Flowers give way to oval green drupes (olives) which ripen to black. Each olive contains a single pit.
